Cambridge sets the boundaries after each series, so nobody knows them in advance. These are the real boundaries from past series, not a prediction.

Questions
Why does Paper 3 count out of 30?
The 9702 syllabus gives Paper 3 23% of the AS Level and 11.5% of the A Level. On the 130-mark AS scale that is 30 marks, so your mark out of 40 is multiplied by 0.75. Every other paper counts at its raw mark. Cambridge doesn't print the factor; it follows from the syllabus percentages, and it rebuilds Cambridge's March 2026 AS threshold for grade A exactly.
Why do the boundaries differ between variants?
Each variant is a different paper (the second digit of your paper code: 42 is Paper 4, variant 2), and Cambridge publishes separate thresholds for each combination of papers. Choose your variant to compare against your own rows. With “Not sure”, each series counts once, at the median of its variants.
I sat AS in an earlier series. Which option do I pick?
Choose “A Level, AS done already”. Cambridge publishes separate A Level thresholds for candidates who carry their AS marks forward, and the calculator compares you against those. If you only know your AS total out of 130, you can enter that instead of the three papers.
Can you tell me this year's boundaries?
No one can: Cambridge sets them after each series. The calculator shows the real boundaries from past series, so you can see how much they move and aim above the highest.
Where the numbers come from
Every boundary is from Cambridge International’s grade threshold documents for Cambridge International AS & A Level Physics (9702), March 2021 to June 2026: the same numbers as on the 9702 grade thresholds page. The paper weighting comes from the 9702 syllabus for 2025–2027. If a number here ever disagrees with Cambridge’s document, the document is right.
