Cambridge Physics 0625 and 9702 · Marked by an examiner

Send me a paper. I'll mark it properly.

Send a full past paper you've already sat, with your working as you wrote it. Photos of your handwriting are fine. It comes back with every mark placed where you earned or lost it, and for every mark you lost: what you wrote, what the marker needed to see, and how to fix it. From £25 a paper.

The mark you'd give yourself isn't the mark you'd get

When you mark your own paper, you know what you meant. So when the scheme says "single frequency" and you wrote "single colour", it's easy to tick it, because that's basically what you said. It scores zero. On IGCSE Extended papers, Cambridge's examiner reports flagged "light of a single colour" as not credited in November 2021, November 2022 and June 2025.

At A Level, defining potential difference as energy transferred "by" a unit charge, instead of "per" unit charge, lost the mark on 9702 Paper 22 in November 2022. One word.

Marking strictly is a skill, and it takes practice and someone checking you. Before the exam, what you need is the mark you'd get on a paper you sat today, and where the rest went, so the weeks you have left go on the marks you're losing.

Rich, who marks every paper himself

I'm Rich. I marked A Level Physics (9702) and IGCSE Physics (0625) for Cambridge, and I've read every examiner report Cambridge published for both from 2021 to 2026. I'm not currently contracted as a Cambridge examiner. What I'm offering here is the marking itself, done the way I did it, with a note on every mark you lost showing exactly how to get it back. More about me.

What you send, and what comes back

What you send

A full past paper you've attempted, with your working as you wrote it. Not a blank paper, and not a tidied-up version. Most of the marks are in the working, so the messy original is the one I need.

What comes back

Your paper marked against the published mark scheme, mark by mark, each one placed where it was earned or lost. For every lost mark: the words that cost it, what the scheme needed instead, and the physics worked through to the right answer. Then the patterns across the whole paper, and the one thing I'd fix first.

Written · within a week, usually sooner

Not a lesson on the topic

A lesson on your answer. The physics is explained for free in a dozen places. What none of them can tell you is why your sentence didn't score, and what would have. That's what each note is for.

Your paper · your mistakes · not a model answer

Why it has to be your own attempt

A model answer marked out of 6 tells you nothing, because it gets 6. The reason marking is worth anything is that it finds the gap between what you meant and what you wrote down. That gap is invisible to you, which is why it keeps costing marks.

Five I marked

Real attempts, exactly as the students got them back: a feedback sheet with the one thing I'd fix first and a note on every lost mark, then their whole script with every mark placed where it was earned or lost. Tap one to open the full PDF.

Sitting 0625 Paper 6? It's £15 instead of £25 until your exam, back within two days. See the Paper 6 offer.

What a note looks like · IGCSE Paper 4 · 6(a)(ii) · 1 mark

You wrote that the current "remains the same". It doesn't. In the dark the LDR's resistance goes up, so the total resistance goes up and the current falls. The voltmeter reading rises because the LDR now takes a bigger share of the 5.0 V. That share is the mark.

How did students find it?

“Definitely more valuable than the marking I usually give to myself.”

"Before sending my paper I was hoping to see if my own marking had been fair, and whether or not I was ready for my final exam. The marking revealed to me my gaps in content and diagrams allowing me to take quick precautions on topics like Particle Physics to make sure I don't lose small marks so quickly. The feedback and marking I received was definitely more valuable than the marking I usually give to myself ... I would definitely recommend any student to give this marking a try to get an idea of where you really stand, and improve on your weaknesses."

AS student, 9702 · the Paper 2 above

“A realistic picture of where I stood before the exam.”

"Having my script marked gave me a realistic picture of where I stood before the exam. It gave me the confidence to push forward and really helped me understand how the mark scheme can be applied in practice."

A Level student, 9702 · the A Level Paper 4 above

“I was quite surprised to see that my explanation was wrong.”

"I had frequently marked one of the explanations for the question as correct, so I was quite surprised to see that my explanation was wrong. ... The explanations provided were particularly useful, alongside with quotes from the examiner report, which really eased my understanding of the topic."

IGCSE Physics student, 0625 · the IGCSE Paper 4 above

“I was always wondering why I couldn't quite get the measurements right.”

"This paper was printed by my teacher and I was always wondering why I couldn't quite get the measurements right. ... I really appreciate it, especially for the in-text written explanations in the marked paper!"

IGCSE Physics student, 0625 · the Paper 6 above

Shown with each student's permission, names removed. All five were free places, marked in exchange for permission to show the script. The two IGCSE quotes are from the same student. The three A Level scripts and the IGCSE Paper 6 are in the students' own handwriting. The IGCSE Paper 4 is retyped word for word in a handwriting font.

How it works

Pay for your paper above, then email it to rich@cieinsider.com with the subject "Marked script", from the address you paid with. Attach photos or a scan of your attempt, and tell me which paper it is, for example 9702 Paper 4, June 2024, variant 1. Going for one of the free places below, or not sure which paper you sit? Email it first with the subject "Mark my paper" and I'll tell you before I start.

I mark it against the published scheme. Mark by mark, in writing, the same way a script came back when I was marking. If the examiner report for that series commented on your question, I'll tell you what it said.

It comes back within a week, usually sooner. If your exam is less than a week away, tell me the date and I'll mark yours first and send it back within two days. One email, nothing to install, nothing you have to reply to.

Then you decide what to do with it. I'll tell you the one thing I'd work on next. If something I do would help with that, I'll say so, and you're free to ignore it.

The free places have gone

All five went, to an IGCSE Paper 4, an A Level Paper 4, an AS Paper 2, an IGCSE Paper 6 and an A Level Paper 5, and each one is a sample above. Every paper is now the paid marking above, from £25.

Questions

Is any of it free?

Not any more. The five free places have all gone, and each one is a sample above. Marking is from £25 a paper.

Does it have to be a whole paper?

Yes. A whole paper shows where you lose marks the same way more than once, and one question can't show that. Sit it timed, in one go, and send it as you wrote it.

What if my answer is bad?

Then you'll get more out of it. Every mark you lose comes back with a note: what you wrote, what the marker needed, and the physics behind it. A near-perfect paper tells you your mark and not much else. A messy one shows you where your marks go and how to get them back, so don't tidy it up first. The only script that can't teach you anything is a blank one.

0625 or 9702?

Either. I marked both for Cambridge and have read every examiner report for both from 2021 to 2026. Say which one you're doing when you send it.

Will you use my work for anything?

No. Work you pay me to mark is never reused, anonymised or otherwise. The samples above were free places, marked on the condition that I could show them anonymised, and each student agreed before theirs went up.

What happens to my email address?

It goes on my list, which is where I send physics emails roughly weekly, and there's an unsubscribe link on every one of them. I don't sell it and nobody else sees it.
